FishFriender’s iOS (v0.1.9) and Android (v1.4.0) apps just got an update ! You were a lot to ask us, and we heard you: the app now automatically set the time and location of a new catch based on the picture metadata (if any).
Indeed, you need to know that a “photo” file (like png or jpg), does not contain only pixels composing the photo. It can also contain a lot of information, such as the maker and model of the camera, the date and place of the photo, etc … We are talking here about TIFF or Exif (among others) information. If this information has been provided by the camera, we are able to extract it to preset those data on your fish catch.
No need to remember precisely the place and date for each fish photo!

Moreover, about this, do not worry: all these metadata are removed from the file before saving the photo on the FishFriender servers. So, if you share your catch with someone else (by putting the spot private, see our article about it here), he will not be able to recover the GPS point from the photo!
Note: On some smartphones, it is necessary to activate the “gps” or “location” function in the camera settings so that the picture keeps the GPS information, otherwise it wont have anything attached.
FishFriender app is constantly evolving, don’t hesitate to tell us about the features you wish for!
